On this page we want to suggest you the best beaches in Tenerife
IF YOU CLICK ON THE PICTURES IT WILL OPEN THE LOCATION OF THE BEACH ON GOOGLE MAPS
Playa Grande
This is definitely one of the best beaches in Tenerife, it is located in the east coast close to El Poris de Abona. We recommend you to go to this place especially when the wind blows from west so that you will find calm sea. It is quite easy to park just next to the beach. Avoid weekends if you can because it is very busy with local people.
Playa de Antequera
The only way to access the hidden beach of Antequera is by following a path. It is located in Igueste de San Andrés, north of the island. This beach, 400m long and 25m wide, has grey sand. When the sea level rises, the sand zone disappears. In addition, nudism is quite common, which makes it even more natural and wild.
Playa de Almáciga
Playa de Almáciga is one of the three beaches of Taganana. This charming town managed to keep its traditions intact. This beach is a combination of small rocks and black sand. The waves are big and strong, therefore this location is ideal for surfing. The Taganana area is in fact home to several surf schools.
As for many of the best beaches in Tenerife It is recommended to pay close attention to currents and big waves when swimming!
Playa de Benijo
Benijo is the most secret and secluded beach in the Taganana area, with its black, volcanic sand and views of the Roques de Anaga. By car you can get to an area where you find some traditional restaurants offering Canarian food. From there you can walk down the stairs and reach the beach. Its dimensions are approximately 300m in length and 30m in width and the waves are sometimes quite large and strong. It is an ideal beach for surfing, but we recommend to be careful.
Seeing the sunset behind Roques de Anaga, is something you can not miss!
Playa del Bollullo
The secluded Playa del Bollullo is located in the area of El Rincón, La Orotava, Tenerife north. If you like big waves and water sports, this place is for you. This black sand beach, 200m long and 40m wide, has a couple of bars and restaurants and a rental service for sunbeds and umbrellas. Access is a bit limited, you can get there on foot from Puerto de la Cruz, which would take you about 45 minutes. Another faster way is following a path from the restaurant “El Bollullo”.
Playa Diego Hernandez
Playa Diego Hernandez, also known as Playa Blanca, is located in the municipality of Adeje, near the town of La Caleta in the south of Tenerife. This beach enjoys most of the year the best weather of the island because it is located in an area protected from the winds. It has white natural sand and it is about 80m long and 25m wide. To access it, you have to reach the town of La Caleta and walk about 20 minutes from there. It is recommended to visit it at low tide because the sand area disappears when sea level is high. This place is also known as the “hippie beach” because there is a little hippie community living there permanently. You can see them in their tents, playing drums, doing yoga and relaxing. Furthermore here naturism is quite common.
This place has a special and unique atmosphere. it is indeed one of the best beaches in Tenerife and one of my favourite!
Playa del Médano
This beach is located in the south of Tenerife, very close to the south airport. it is a place famous for water sports such as wind surfing or kite surfing, as in this area there is almost always a strong wind coming from the northeast. The beach is natural with golden sand and is very long. The area is full of bars and restaurants and has a very relaxed vibe.
Playa el Ancón
This black sand beach is located in the area of El Rincón, La Orotava, in the north of the island. It is just next to Playa de los Patos. Like most of Tenerife’s secret beaches, it does not have easy access, the only way is on foot, walking about 15 minutes on a path along the coast. The beach is so hidden, that most people do not even know it exists. Here you have to be careful when swimming, the sea can be very unpredictable in the north.
Playa de los Patos
This beach is located in the north of Tenerife in a place called “El Rincón” close to Puerto de la Cruz. It is just next to Playa del Ancón. At the moment the local administration is building stairs (see location here) that will provide easy access to this wonderful beach of natural volcanic black sand. It has been considered one of the best of Spain and definitely one of the best beaches in Tenerife. Here it is also possible to practise naturism.
Playa de Montaña Pelada
Montaña Pelada is a Natural Monument, located in Granadilla de Abona, in the south of Tenerife. In this place an underwater eruption formed a volcanic cone that you can admire, definitely a wonder of nature.
This white sand beach is very small and you can reach it from the village of El Medano.
Playa de la Arena
Among the best beaches in Tenerife we want to mention Playa de la Arena, in the northern town of Mesa del Mar. This beach is one of the few that gives you an amazing view of the majestic volcano Teide that you will never forget. There is also a a very nice natural pool in the area. You can park very close but avoid weekends if you can because it is very busy as local people love this place.
Playa de Masca
This beautiful beach of black sand is located in the area of Teno Mountains in the northwest of the island. To reach it you can walk down the canyon from the the village of Masca or you can go on a boat trip, for example the 4,5 hours catamaran trip. From here you can admire the majestic cliffs of Los Gigantes, one of the main natural attractions of Tenerife.
In conclusion, we want to invite you to have a look at our excursions on the island and find ideas to have fun on your vacation.
